We are proud to announce the inaugural season of West Marin Little League's Challenger Division, which will provide an opportunity for any boy or girl ages 5 through 12 with a disability (physical or cognitive) to join a baseball team and learn baseball skills with other kids in a fun, informal, and supportive environment. We are excited to invite your child (or one you know) to join our teams for Spring 2020!
Our Challenger Little League baseball season will run from mid-March to early-June, and while the specific structure and design of the division is still under construction and will depend on the level of interest, it is likely to include about ten games on Sunday afternoons at one of our beautiful West Marin Little League fields. Weekly practices may also be scheduled at the discretion of the coaches. The season will begin with our annual Opening Day parade down Broadway Blvd. in Fairfax, followed by our traditional Opening Day Ceremony at Central Field. Kids will learn the basics of baseball and how to play as part of a team, and games will be non-competitive with full participation by all. Every player will have a turn at bat each inning, no one makes an out, everyone runs the bases, no one keeps score, and hopefully, everyone has a great time playing baseball for an hour or two each Sunday. Parents, coaches, and players from Little League’s other divisions will provide game day support with as much (or as little) assistance as necessary for each player to enjoy the game. And each player will be provided an authentic West Marin Little League uniform!
We also offer a number of supplemental events, such as group attendance at the S.F. Giants Little League Days, and an end-of-season June "Jamboree" with other Bay Area Challenger teams.
Here's what else you need to know:
Little League’s Challenger Division was founded in 1989 and includes over 22,000 players nationally.
West Marin Little League is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization that depends on fees and contributions to cover expenses. But while fees are requested to defray costs, waivers are offered and no one is ever denied the opportunity to play. The fee for Challenger Division registration is $100. The final date for Challenger registration is March 1, 2020; however, to help us to properly plan for the Spring 2020 season, we ask parents and caregivers to please register as early as possible, preferably before January 15, 2020. Please note that early registration will also ensure that your child is able to participate in case available spaces on teams fill up this year! If you know additional families who may be interested in Challenger Division baseball for Spring 2020, please have them contact us directly at the email addresses below. Register for Challenger Division on our website: www.westmarinlittleleague.com
Lastly, but importantly, we are also looking for a Challenger Division VP to join our WMLL Board, as well as volunteer coaches for the Challenger Division. Please let us know if you are interested.
